Our History

History

My name is Shula Woodworth and I started Serenity Horse Rescue in 2006. I did not start this rescue to save only the healthy, young, ride-able horses from slaughter, neglect, and abuse. This rescue seeks to save all horses both young and old, the lame and the blind, skinny or overweight, those unable to ride and those with only months to live. I believe that horses give so much of themselves to humans and they deserve to have a loving, caring, happy life to the end. Serenity Horse Rescue is a non profit volunteer based organization (no one gets paid). 100% of all donations to renting barns, hay and other feed, vet care, and other basic expenses for these animals.

We allow anyone to come and volunteer here, whether to do community service, or just to visit and pet the horses and other animals we have. Sometimes people come with the wrong intent: that is to simply ride horses all the time with little regard to their needs. However this rescue has and always will seek to provide for and shelter these beautiful animals that have come under our care, and we expect the same from those who volunteer and spend time here. We are and shall remain a Christian based organization. We welcome anyone who loves horses and wants to help us in our mission to protect these magnificent animals.

Serenity Horse Rescue was founded in Lebanon Ohio, in 2006 by Shula Woodworth, organization president.
